Can you tell me more about heavy metals?

Heavy metals are naturally occurring elements that can be found in water, soil, and air. Human activities, such as industrial processes, mining, and the use of certain pesticides and fertilizers, can also introduce heavy metals into the environment

What kind of foods can heavy metals affect?

Because they grow in the ground, root plants and vegetables can absorb heavy metals from the soil. This category of produce includes vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, cassava (yuca), sweet potatoes, beets, turnips, radishes, and many others. The extent to which they absorb these metals can vary depending on factors such as soil composition, agricultural practices, and the specific plant or vegetable species.

What safety measures does Siete take to minimize the presence of heavy metals?

Your health, safety, and enjoyment of Siete products are our top priorities, which is why we take concerns about heavy metals seriously. We acknowledge the natural occurrence of heavy metals in the environment and work diligently to minimize their presence to safe levels in our products. Our goal is to maintain your trust by providing safe, uncompromising, high-quality food. For example, the cassava flours we use in our products are obtained from suppliers who meet our stringent criteria, prioritizing food safety, quality, reliability, and ethical business practices. Siete suppliers undergo multiple rounds of lead testing and must pass tests conducted by accredited third-party laboratories for heavy metals (such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury) to be in compliance with the FDA and California's Proposition 65 requirements, as well as our high and rigorous standards.

Our tortilla chips, maiz totopos and potato chips are fried in avocado oil.

Hecho con amor, baked with joy, and fried for—well, the fun of it.

The nutritional yeast that is used in our Nacho tortilla chips is an inactivated or heated form of baker’s yeast.

What are pecans?

Pecans are a type of tree nut native to North America. They have a hard, outer shell covering, which protects the nut. Pecans are known for their rich, buttery flavor and are often used in baking, cooking, and as a snack. For this reason, we use them in some of our Grain Free Cookies!

Can pecan shell fragments show up in Siete Cookies?

During the harvesting and shelling process, tiny fragments of the pecan shell can occasionally separate from the nut, and there is a very small chance these fragments can make their way into Siete Cookies.

While these occurrences are quite rare and typically pose no significant health risk, since pecan shells are organic, non-toxic material, our partners take great measures to reduce the presence of shells and provide the highest quality products. For example, our partners have specialized machines and highly trained individuals who thoroughly inspect the nuts for shells at various stages throughout the separation process.

What can I do if I find a shell fragment in Siete Cookies?

Safety and quality are at the forefront of everything we do, so if you ever find a pecan shell in one of our products, please contact our Customer Delight team at hola@sietefoods.com, so we can investigate the matter and address any concerns.

We currently offer two varieties of our Almond Flour Tortillas: our 8-count pack, found on our website and in stores, and a 20-count pack made exclusively for Costco. While both are made with lots of love, they use slightly different recipes.

Why the difference?

The Costco tortillas are sold refrigerated and go through a different storage and distribution process. To help preserve freshness and ensure the best possible experience at home, we use a slightly different formulation, one that still reflects our food philosophy.

No matter where you find us, we want you to know: great care and consideration go into every product formulation, no matter the size or retailer.

Our commitment to quality and deliciousness remains the same across the board and the hope that our products bring joy to your table.
